Intro
Banks sell trust. I build the brands that earn it.
Rebrands | Rate Campaigns | Billboards | Print + Display | Landing Pages | Annual Reports | Lead Gen
I know banks. I've rebranded them, repositioned them and helped set the stage for an acquisition. Money is personal, so the work has to feel like a partner, not a pitch. I've led creative for regional banks and financial firms across rebrands, rate campaigns, billboards, print, display, landing pages, annual reports and lead gen. Every piece clears compliance and still sounds human.
Rebranded Columbia Bank, modernizing a 100+ year-old institution with a new mark, palette, type system and branch signage
Ran Freedom Bank rate campaigns and shareholder reports through its record 2021: deposits up 14%, net income up 99%
Led award-winning Oritani Bank campaigns credited internally with making the bank more attractive to buyers ahead of its acquisition by Valley Bank
Cut cost per acquisition from $36 to $11 for Green Ridge Wealth Planning, driving 195 ebook downloads at a 29% conversion rate
Columbia Bank
It started with the advertising. Before anyone talked about a new logo, we built the brand up one piece at a time: rate flyers, branch promos and newspaper ads with a sharper, more confident look. Better work earned the bigger job.
For the rebrand, I studied where the logo came from and where local competitors were headed. Most were trading their heritage for generic corporate marks. Columbia's own history pointed a better way: evolve, don't erase. My concept, Evo, won: a rigid box broken only by a playful curve. The "C" mimics a roll of money and echoes the ribbons of the "S" in the old logo, so longtime customers still recognize it. It shipped with a navy and gold palette, a slab serif type system and new branch signage, then went on TV.
Where it started
Better everyday work first: rate flyers, branch promos and newspaper ads.

The new mark
That work earned the rebrand. Evolve, don't erase: the ribbons of the old S became the curl of the new C.

Columbia Bank commercials
Boarded first, then shot: four spots built on the new look and voice.

The Results
Freedom Bank. Rate campaigns exist to bring in deposits, and 2021 was the best year in Freedom's history:
Deposits up 14%, adding $64.6 million
Total assets up $69 million to $610 million
Net income up 99% to a record $6.5 million
The growth kept going in 2022, and the bank opened new branches along the way.
Rate ads all start to look the same. Freedom's didn't. "Bump Up Your CD Earnings" climbed a staircase of cash. "Rake In the Savings" piled up the leaves. "You Pick the Term" put the customer in charge of the CD. "Rates This Low Won't Last" ran out the hourglass. Each idea ran from billboard to landing page to display and newspaper. The annual reports got a story of their own each year, built to do more than recap the numbers: they gave shareholders a reason to reinvest.
Freedom Bank in market
Each rate idea ran across billboards, newspaper, display and landing pages.

Freedom Bank annual reports
Not a recap of the year. A reason to reinvest: Strength in Numbers for 2021 and Building a Legacy for 2022.

Oritani Bank
Award-winning work. Home Sweet Loan sold mortgages and Unlock More Savings sold money market accounts across print, branch and web. The campaigns were credited internally with making the bank more attractive to buyers ahead of its acquisition by Valley Bank.

Green Ridge Wealth Planning
Green Ridge had a logo but no brand. I built a cohesive look and feel, then launched a campaign on it: website, client guide, an ebook and four Facebook ads tested head to head. The winner cut cost per acquisition from $36 to $11 and drove 195 downloads at a 29% conversion rate.
